The Walkers will begin at Ballyheigue Community Centre and head up the hill by the beach to the Castle Gates. Then it is on through the Castle Gates and the grounds of Ballyheigue Golf Club before passing the remains of Ballyheigue Castle and existing the golf Club on the Mountway Road. After a few hundred yards the route takes you off the road again and up along a track known locally as the "Lime Kiln"which is part of the North Kerry Way.

The track makes its way through the woods before coming out on the Doon Road and a chance to catch your breath after all the climbing. Here we take a left and begin a walk along country roads with some breathtaking views of Tralee Bay.
The views continue to expand and take in Mount Brandon and the Maherees as well as the whole sweep of the beaches from Ballyheigue to Banna and on to Fenit where you can see the lighthouse and in the far distance you can catch a glimpse of Blennerville Windmill.
The road continues parallel to the coast along Balylongane until you come to a T-Junction. Here you take a left and descend until you reach the Coast Road where anther left will bring you back towards Ballyheigue village passing Dromatoor Pier along the way.

On April 14th 2013 - we walked in Cullahill in Co. Laois. It was another success and even the gale force winds didn't dampen our spirits. Thank you to all our listeners who joined us.

Take a look at some of the photos from that day below.

Below is a link to RTE ONE's Nationwide programme who joined the John Murray Show on the walk in Cullahill, Co. Laois, which was transmitted on tv Apr 24th.

    Cullahill / Sunday / 14th April 2013

The next outing of our Walking Club is on Sunday 14th April. We’ll gather outside the community centre in Cullahill, Co. Laois, and head off on our walk at 12 midday. Cullahill is on the old Dublin-Cork Road [the R639] between Urlingford and Durrow.

There’s about two-and-a-half hours’ walking involved, all in all, and there’ll be a break half-way through as usual. Walkers can expect to be back at the community centre for about 3.30-4pm. The first half of the walk is mostly uphill – we’ll be ascending around 140 meters - but that’s spread over an hour… so it shouldn’t be too challenging. Most of the walk is on quiet country roads, but a short part of the route takes us cross country through fields – so you’re advised to wear proper walking boots and to bring rain gear.

For further, local, information about the walk please call Vincent O'Sullivan on 087 416 8549.
