Music - Pierce Turner

Pierce Turner is in studio with John this morning for a performance & chat. He has been described by the Sunday Times as having "finest body of work in contemporary Irish music, bar none".

A Wexford native, Pierce lives in Manhattan & has returned to Ireland to play four dates this month.

You can see Pierce perform at the following venues, Seamus Ennis, Naul, May 2nd, Coughlans, Cork City, May 8th, The National Concert Hall, Dublin May 12th & Wexford Arts Centre June 5th.

In studio with John are a band from Sligo called Old Hannah.  They release their new EP “Iron and Wood” - this Friday night 8th May in the Button Factory in Dublin & The Model Sligo on Saturday 9th May.

Music with Karen Wyman

When Karen Wyman made her first tv appearance, she was 16 years old & the show was the Dean Martin Show & the year 1969. In her time she dueted with the likes of Glen Campbell, Tom Jones & the legendary Bobby Darin.

Karen is in studio for a chat & performance ahead of her gig in Dublin next week.

The John Lennon Songbook

Beatle fans can look forward to tomorrow evening in the NCH, when actor Mark McGann will sing in & narrate 'The John Lennon Songbook' with vocalists Claire Martin & Charlie Wood, along with the RTE Concert Orchestra.

Mark & Claire, accompanied on piano by Brian Connor, are in studio to perform for us this morning.

Choir - Songs in the Key of D

The studio is full to bursting as John is joined by a choir called Songs in the Key of D, a choir that celebrates the music of Dublin. They are also joined by one of the choir directors, Killian Grumley-Traynor.

The choir was initially set up for the Fringe in 2013 & after many sold out concerts their next step was an album which is due to be released on May 13th, they are also playing in the Nationcal Concert Hall that same date.

Tenor Placido Domingo

A household name Placido Domingo made up a third of the famous Three Tenors, a title given to himself & fellow Spanish tenor, Jose Carreras & Italian tenor, Luciano Pavarotti a quarter of a century ago.

Placido is still going strong as he approaches his 75th birthday & he joins John this morning ahead of his Dublin visit.

Vocal Ensemble, Ardú

In studio this morning are an exciting vocal ensemble based in Dublin, called Ardú.

The singers come from various parts of Ireland & the UK & specialise in arranging well known popular music for five or six voices. Their debut EP, Only You/Back, In Time, was launched at the City of Derry International Choral Fest in 2014.

In studio this morning we have Irish Indie rock band from Meath, Ham SandwicH.

Their latest album is called 'Stories From the Surface', & the songs they will perform from the album are 'Fandango' & 'Illuminate'.

Jim Rooney

Jim Rooney's musical odyssey has seen him cross paths with the likes of Bob Dylan and James Taylor and as a Grammy winning record producer he’s worked with Nanci Griffith and Hal Ketchum to name but two artistes; he’s played with major figures like Don Everly of the Everly Brothers and he’s credited with having been a key link connecting Ireland's folk music scene to Nashville. 

And you can catch Jim with the Clontarf Cowboy himself – Philip Donnelly - in the Community Centre in Ballinderreen, Co. Galway tonight
