MyPod series with Steve Coogan

Recently we spoke to BBC Journalist, Martin Sixsmith, recuited by the family of Irish woman, Philomena Lee, to find her long lost son, brought to life in a new film where Philomena is played by Judi Dench & Martin by actor Steve Coogan, who is here to do our MyPod series with Miriam this morning.

Jimmy MacCarthy returns by popular demand

We had singer songwriter Jimmy MacCarthy on our show in September, as he was about to head off on a nationwide tour. Because of the extraordinary response to his appearance, many of you requested other songs of Jimmy's that we simply had not time for. Jimmy is back in studio with us this morning as his tour is coming to an end.  Also joining us on the line are Mary Black, Brian Kennedy & Mary Coughlan.  Jimmy was accompanied on piano by Rob Burke.

All tour dates booked out but there are still some available tickets for Vicar Street, tomorrow night.

Music & chat with Rackhouse Pilfer

Now in its 9th year, Sligo Live is back on this Bank Holiday weekend,  with some big national & International acts, Imelda May, Villagers & Midlake & one of the biggest local acts, Rackhouse Pilfer, supporting Imelda joins Miriam in studio this morning, for a chat & performance.

Monday 21st October

Singer Karen Underwood

Miriam's next guest is a talented singer & performer who moved here from Chicago in 1997 to start a new life in Cork. Since her time in Ireland, her life has been tinged with both happiness & profound sadness. Karen Underwood joins Miriam in studio this morning.

Karen's new show is called 'The Ladies Lost & Found', a show covering tracks by legendary divas such as Billie Holiday, Whitney Houston, Judy Garland & more.

Venue is the Everyman Theatre in Cork on Saturday November 30th @ 8pm

(All profits go to Karen's Cork charity 'Bounce Back' - to create & spread awareness of suicide in youth).

The Smiths - Morrissey's autobiography

Miriam's first guest this morning is Matthew Devereaux from the band 'The Pale',  who has been busy reading Morrissey's autobioghraphy, the lead singer of the 1980's band The Smiths.  James Morrissey's book has been one of the most anticipated books of recent years.

Equinox - Europe's hottest Jazz Band fronted by a Dubliner

Though legally blind Dubliner Johnny Daly became a founding member of one of Europe's hottest new jazz acts, Equinox. Just back from Amsterdam they are described as 'cool & lucid, exciting & virtuosic - a joy to hear' & are about to embark on a nationwide Irish tour. (Jimmy Magee also gives us an impronto performance by singing with Equinox).

Equinox have recently released their second album 'Face the Music' & can be seen on their nationwide tour

Kimmie & Cabe Rhodes

Miriam's next guest is a country singer from Texas, who is not only a multi-platinum singer/songwriter but has also had her songs recorded by legendary artists such as Willie Nelson, Mark Knopfler & Emmylou Harris. Kimmie Rhodes is joined by her son Cabe to perform & chat with us this morning.

MyPod with Shane Ross

While attention is now shifting to reform of the Seanad following the defeat of the referendum to abolish it. Shane Ross was the longest serving member of the Seanad & he joins Miriam this morning with his selection of the most meaningful music in his life, as part of the Mypod series.

Tribute to Philip Chevron

Philip Chevron, one of Ireland's best loved musicians died yesterday at the age of 56 after a long battle with cancer. The Dublin born musician was a member of the The Radiators from Space & The Pogues. Cait O'Riordan talks about this very special man & his life.
