    David Varley - rugby & music

    Damien Varley had to cut short his career in rugby as the 31-year-old picked up the injury to his left foot during a training session in July 2013. Damien was a Munster hooker & has 3 caps for Ireland % made 121 appearances for the province, scoring 12 tries. Damien is also a keen musician he was known for his musical talents while singing on many a rugby tour. Damien joins John in studio for a chat & performance.

    Vladimir & Anton Jablokov are Slovakian sibling musicians with a shared rare gift - mastery of the classical violin - & are set to join forces on the stage of the National Concert Hall this Easter Saturday, 4th April 2015 as part of their nationwide tour.     20 Years of Irelands Call

    When Ireland take on England in the six nations in the Aviva on Sunday, the stadium will once again ring to the sound of Ireland's Call - our rugby anthem which is 20 years old this year.

    Phil Coulter is the man behind the song, in a career apanning about 50 years, Phil has published hundreds of songs & collaborated with so many artists from Van Morrison, Planxty, Bay City Rollers, Jerry Lee Lewis, Tom Jones, Celtic Thunder ....the list goes on & Phil joins John in studio this morning to mark Ireland's Call anniversary.

    Rock Guitarist Mark Knopfler

    One of the most well-known rock guitarists of all time, Mark Knopfler rose to fame as the driving force behind British rock band Dire Straits, notching up record sales in excess of 120 million. 

    Mark also has composed the scores for big moives & collaborated with some of the biggest names in music from Bob Dylan to Eric Clapton to Van Morrison.  Mark joins John to talk about his career & the release of his 8th solo album in March, entitled 'Tracker'.
