The Business Saturday 30 September 2017
A weekly look at the world of business and personal finance with Richard Curran
In the aftermath of last weekend's German elections, has the balance of power in Europe lurched away from Angela Merkle towards Emanuel Macron? Joining Richard in studio is Frank Barry, Economist at the Trinity School of Business & Emenuelle Schon-Quinlivan, lecturer in politics in UCC.
Like many expectant parents, Jennifer Shjaw found herself micromanaging her first pregnancy to such a degree that she spotted an interesting gap in the market. Together with her colleague turned business partner, Clare Finnan, they set about launching a retail event aimed at parents of the more than 70,000 babies born in Ireland every year.
Chris Horn was a computer science lecturer when he & some of his colleagues set up Iona Technologies as an on-campus company in Trinity College Dublin. By 1997 it became only the 2nd Irish company ever floated on the Nasdaq, raising 137 million dollars in the process. He has since been active as investor & mentor to Irish tech & he joins Richard in studio this morning.
It's September & Back to School Time, so we are talking about the business of headlice & treatments with Evelyn O'Rourke.
