The reason for banning laptops in cabins is very much about security but even so, airlines are strongly opposed to the move, since laptops are so important to their big spending business passengers. The International Air Transport Association has already come out to say that extending the ban to Europe would cost business-class passengers one billion dollars in lost productivity.
