The Business with George Lee, 9th March 2013 - The Property Problem
Mortgage figures this week from the Central Bank made for uneasy reading for beleaguered households and buy-to-let investors.
Between them, there are almost 200,000 mortgage accounts in arrears. Yet only a tiny fraction of properties have so far been repossessed by the banks.
But that may be about to change, with the banks and the Financial Regulator signalling a "get tough" approach, particularly towards buy-to-let investors. We discuss the potential impact on the property market and home-owners with solicitor Bill Holohan, Brendan Williams, Lecturer in Urban Planning and Urban Economics at UCD and Carol Tallon, MD of Buyer's Brokers.
