    Pat Hume

John Hume is considered one of the great political figures of the last half century in this country, and a new book has just been published by Four Courts Press about John Hume – civil rights leader; SDLP co-founder; Nobel Peace Prize-winner.  Among the interesting contributions in John Hume - Irish Peacemaker is a chapter written by Pat Hume, the woman who has shared her life with John for the last 55 years.  Pat speaks to Miriam this morning about those eventful 55 years, and about dementia too, with which John has suffered in recent years.

    Concert for Paris

This morning’s show ended with a special piece of music recorded on Friday night at St Patrick's Cathedral in Dublin, which was the venue for a “Concert for Paris” in honour of the victims of last week's attacks.  Over 200 Irish classical musicians performed and the event was organised by conductor, John Doyle. The piece of music played was Pie Jesu, from Faure’s Requiem, sung by Pierce Cullen, lead chorister with the Palestrina Choir.
