On the programme today as a Bank Holiday special we featured the Second Captains' in studio. They were celebrating the 20th anniversary of Ken Doherty's win in the World Snooker Championships and also Kathrine Switzer, the first woman to run the Boston Marathon as a numbered entry.

An official attacked her on the course, grabbing for her race numbers and screaming and cursing at her before being body blocked by her boyfriend. The incident was broadcast worldwide

About The Show

Combining music, chat and revealing profile interviews, the multi-award winning Second Captains bring shows with a lively, light-hearted and humorous tone to an audience far beyond traditional sports fans.

Presented by Eoin McDevitt, Ciaran Murphy and Ken Early, their critically-acclaimed Summer morning show Second Captains Sundayfeatures high-profile comedians, actors and journalists from outside the world of sport. In their first series alone, the show welcomed the likes of Lenny Abrahamson, Dara O'Briain, David O'Doherty, James Vincent McMorrow and Des Bishop.

The Sunday show also includes the feature This Sporting Life, where their main guest explains how sport has impacted on them – for good and bad. They discuss playing and watching sport as kids and in those awkward adolescent years, parental or teacher pressures and their passion or otherwise for sport in their current lives. At the end of each series, Second Captains crown a guest with the prestigious title of Ireland's Greatest Non-Sportsperson Sportsperson - the current champ with an impressive background in Gymnastics, is Gabby Logan.

The team have also presented and produced Second Captains Sunday and guest presented The Ryan Tubridy Show on RTE Radio 1.

Set up in March 2013 by Eoin McDevitt, Ken Early, Mark Horgan, Ciarán Murphy and Simon Hick, Second Captains specialise in online, radio, television and live event production, and publishing.

The Second Captains podcast was launched in 2013 and quickly became the most popular podcast in Ireland, winning the iTunes podcast of the year in 2014. In 2015, the podcast was chosen as one of the top ten British and Irish podcasts of all-time as part of iTunes Essentials list and it was selected as one of The Guardian’s 50 best podcasts of 2016. It remains Ireland’s most-listened to podcast.

The company has produced 5 series of the IFTA nominated Second Captains Live for RTÉ 2 television and also produce and present radio shows for RTÉ Radio 1. They have hosted TV shows and live events in the UK, San Francisco, New York, and all around Ireland.

In 2015, they published and released the Second Captains Sports Annual, Volume 1 and followed it up with the sell-out Volume 2 in 2016.

Second Captains expanded it’s online shows in February 2017 and launched The Second Captains World Service podcast network available only to Second Captains members. The team broadcast from their studios in Dublin.

Second Captains previously produced and presented 'Off The Ball' on Newstalk radio for eight years, winning a record nine PPI national radio awards.
