During the Autumn of 1862, thousands of Irish were killed fighting in the American Civil War. Among the dead were some well known names, but also long forgotten heroes. In the first of her monthly series bringing to life the stories of some of those men, Orla Rapple tells the story of Patrick Clooney, a brave young man from Waterford who was among the casualties in the most brutal battle in American military history. Orla’s report was funded by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland with the Television Licence Fee.
