    Putin’s Sanctions

    Putin’s Sanctions

Russia's ban on dairy imports from the European Union is hitting global dairy markets at a time when they are particularly vulnerable. So as the shelves in Russia empty of Irish dairy products, as the top buyer of EU cheese and butter, how does this affect Irish producers? Sean was joined by John Comer, President of the Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers Association; Jack Kennedy of the Irish Farmers Journal and by Alsu Khusainova, a Russian woman who is on holiday in Ireland and married to an Irish journalist in Moscow.

    EU Sanctions on Russia

    EU Sanctions on Russia

Military intervention in the Ukraine crisis has thus far been ruled out by both the United States and the European Union, leaving the superpowers with only one card to play in the form of economic sanctions. But with Europe hugely dependent on Russia for its gas and oil supply, is talk of economic warfare nothing more than lip service, and does Vladimir Putin have any reason at all to fear an economic slap on the wrist from the EU? Keelin was joined by David Horgan, Managing Director of Petrel Resources and by Con Coughlin of the Daily Telegraph.

    Crimea

    Crimea

As the west is still grappling  with how to deal with the results of Sunday’s referendum in Crimea – a referendum which saw an overwhelming majority of those that voted – voting for a return to Russia. Russian president Vladimir putin has already signed a decree recognising Crimea as a sovereign state. Putin is due to address Russian MPs in the Kremlin on his intentions in relation to Crimea in just under an hour – for more on what he’s likely to say, Keelin was joined by Fred Wear, from the Christian Science Monitor.

    Ukraine

    Ukraine

Vladimir Putin is keeping the world guessing about his intentions in Crimea. Is he intending to permanently occupy the peninsula, or merely giving the world a display of Russian military power. Another point to consider is the sheer expense of moving men and armour around, and the possibility of sanctions further down the road. I’m going to discuss some of those questions now with Fred Weir, Moscow correspondent of the Christian Science Monitor

Kicking the Kremlin - Russia's New Dissidents and the Battle to Topple Putin

Kicking the Kremlin - Russia's New Dissidents and the Battle to Topple Putin

by Marc Bennetts (One World Publishing)   The Winter Olympics in the city of Sochi in Russia kick off this week, and at a reported cost of almost €38 billion, the games are already shaping up to be the most controversial ever held. Seen by many as the ‘New Russia's coming out party’, President Vladimir Putin's Games aim to show Russia as politically stable, economically strong and a world-player once again. But there are still old skeletons rattling around in its closets -- allegations of cronyism and corruption, families being evicted from their homes with no compensation in Sochi, severe ...

    Putin Letter

    Putin Letter

Russian President Vladimir Putin has written an open letter to US President Barack Obama and the American people. The letter presses many warning buttons for the United States .....like when he talks about the make up of the Syrian Rebels...... “Syria is not witnessing a battle for democracy, but an armed conflict between government and opposition in a multireligious country. There are few champions of democracy in Syria. But there are more than enough Qaeda fighters and extremists of all stripes battling the government.” And again when talking about American Foreign Policy he says “Millions around the world increasingly see ...

    G20 Summit

    G20 Summit

President Barack Obama’s efforts to assemble a diplomatic and political coalition to support a US attack on Syria has failed to gain momentum at the G20 summit of world leaders in St.Petersburg. The Russian President Vladamir Putin has made no secret of his opposition to US military intervention in the aftermath a chemical gas attack, blamed on the Syrian Government by Britain and America . US Ambassador to the UN Samantha Power said the Security Council was no longer a "viable path" for holding Syria accountable for war crimes. Joining Sean from Moscow was Seamus Martin, who is attending the ...
