    The UN has given the Vatican an unprecedented dressing down over its handling of clerical child sex abuse. The UN Committee on the Rights of the Child said the church “ had failed to acknowledge the extent of the crimes committed” and demanded it immediately turn over known or suspected offenders to face justice.     Child abuse and its aftermath are back in the news.  Last Thursday, Boston’s Cardinal Sean O’Malley communicated the Pope’s approval of a proposal submitted by the Council of 8 Cardinals to create a Commission for the protection of minors, while here in Ireland on Tuesday, The National Board for Safeguarding Children in the Catholic Church in Ireland (NBSCCCI), published its audit of 6 dioceses and 2 religious orders.
