Assaults on taxi drivers

Monday 21st January

Michael is a taxi driver. In the early hours of Sunday morning he was attacked in his cab. He picked the two men up in Dawson street and as they turned right onto Nassau street the guy beside him produced a knife and the other guy in the back wrapped the seat belt around Michaels’ neck. He believed they were going to kill him and he would never see his family again. He drove them onto Fitzwilliam street and then towards Baggot street….all the while he had the seatbelt around his neck. On Waterloo Road he said enough is enough ...

Michael and John are both taxi drivers. They spoke to Joe recently about their experience of being assaulted in their line of work. They described driving at speed to escape their assailants. To add insult to injury they have both now received speeding fines in the post. Other callers react to the news that Clare Daly was under the limit following her arrest for drink driving
