About 4,000 frontline staff, nurses, Gardai , fire officers, ambulance personnel and prison officers rejected government plans to cut premium payments at a mass rally in Dublin last night. The Government proposes to reduce Sunday premium payment from double time to time and a half and to abolish special Saturday and “twilight” evening payments. The cuts are part of a drive to make savings of €1 billion euro over the next three years.
