E-mail scams

Thursday 1st November

Sheila got an email from her friend's account saying she was away from home and all her cards and money had been stolen. The email went onto say that she had left her phone at home. Sheila emailed her friend asking how she could help and was told to send money by Western Union. Sheila sent over €1500 before she realised her friend's account had been hacked and it was all a scam.

ATM scams

Monday 3rd December

Agnes was at an ATM last Friday in Blanchardstown. She had punched in her pin number when a young man in his 20s came up to her waving two pieces of glossy paper. A man in the queue behind Agnes told the young man to get lost and let her continue with her business. When he left Agnes took out €90 and went into the bank to tell them what had happened only to discover €220 had been taken out of her account.
