There was a strong reaction from the fostering community in the past week when Irish Times columnist John Waters highlighted the financial benefits of fostering as a motivating factor for many would be foster parents. Some took this to mean that they were in it solely for the money. Over the weekend, as the results of the Children’s Referendum was becoming clear, Brian O’Connell travelled from Cork to Mayo and met some foster parents and children for whom the vote could have real significance.
