Elderly Inmates in Prisons.
Figures released to the Irish Times have revealed that the number of older prisoners being held in Irish prisons has increased by as much as 70 per cent in the past six years. Back in November last, 335 prisoners in jail here were over 50 with 13 of them aged between 70 and 75, nine were in the 75 to 80 age bracket and two prisoners were over 80. Already concerns have been raised about the conditions, these elderly prisoners are living in with incontinence, dementia and blindness all problems for older prisoners.
