    1974 Power Sharing Executive

    40 years ago this month, the Northern Ireland Executive declared 1974 as the Year of Reconciliation in the North. The first attempt at power-sharing in the region began on the 1st of January which meant that there would no longer be majority rule.   The power sharing executive was established on foot of a number of initiatives involving the British, and later the Irish, governments which culminated in the Sunningdale Agreement of December 1973.
