Nicola Furlong Murder Verdict

Tuesday 19th March

A 19 year old American musician, Richard Hinds has been found guilty of the murder of the County Wexford student, Nicola Furlong by a court in Tokyo. Hinds was sentenced to 5 to10 years in prison with labour. The Presiding judge described the crime as "atrocious," and said that the fact that Ms Furlong was "strangled with force for several minutes:" showed "intent" Joining Pat from Tokyo Paul Murphy of the Irish Independent and Angela Furlong, Nicola’s mother.

Nicola Furlong Murder Trial

Monday 11th March

The man accused of murdering Irish student Nicola Furlong has been giving evidence in court in Tokyo today. 19 year old Richard Hinds described in graphic detail how he “pressed her neck” and hearing Ms.Furlong “breath abnormally”. The Furlong family were visibly distraught during the testimony and at one stage, after a request by Ms Furlong’s parents, Mr Hinds was asked to stop referring to Ms Furlong as Nicki. Pat was joined from Tokyo by Paul Murphy who gave us the latest.

James Blackston ,the friend of a man accused of the Nicola Furlong murder, has been handed a three -year sentence for sexual assault by a court in Tokyo. Pat was joined on the line from Tokyo Paul Murphy ,who is reporting on the case for the Irish Independent.
