Working conditions for junior doctors
Laura Ann is a final year medical student. She is also a student member of the IMO. She read an article in “The Medical Independent” about two junior doctors who committed suicide. It really struck her. Laura Ann says that junior doctors are under immense pressure. She is due to begin her internship in July. She knows people who routinely work 36 hour shifts. Khan’s wife is a junior doctor, some weeks she works 120 hours. They have no family life.
