    The Minister for Education Ruairi Quinn is currently running a survey on the preferred choice of primary school patron. At present more than 90 percent or 3,000 schools are under the remit of the Catholic Church. Parents of all children aged 12 and under can participate in the survey; this can be accessed online via education.ie until February 8th. The survey initiative is in line with the recommendations of the Forum on Patronage and Pluralism in the Primary sector.     We now know that the Government is to introduce legislation supported by regulation to deal with the abortion issue on foot of the X case ruling. It follows the public outcry following the death of 31 year old Savita Halappanavar who died back in October following a miscarriage at Galway University Hospital. The legislation is expected to be framed by April of next year. Already the Catholic Church is out of the traps calling for a free vote on the legislation which would allow TDs to vote without the party whip and on their own beliefs. Joining Pat in studio ...
