    Jason Smyth

At the age of eight, Jason Smyth from Derry was diagnosed with a genetic eye condition called Stargardts Disease which affects his central vision. Studgardts disease is genetic – his grandfather had suffered from it. Gradually his vision reduced to roughly ten percent of an average person’s eyesight. Whilst that may have slowed many of us down it has not prevented Jason from becoming a double Olympic champion at two Olympic Games, double world champion and the fastest Paralympian on the planet.
