    International Clinical Trials Day

    International Clinical Trials Day

On this day in 1747, British Navy surgeon James Lind began a series of experiments into the cause of scurvy. It consisted of 12 men, grouped into pairs and given everything from cider to oranges and lemons, and it eventually establishing a link between citrus fruits and scurvy. This was the first ever clinical trial, and that is why today is designated International Clinical Trials Day. I’m joined by Dr Cathy Kelly, consultant oncologist at the Mater Hospital and by Diane Hanley, a patient who has taken part in trials.
