After 21 years, an Irishman has won a stage of cycling’s greatest event, the Tour De France. And what a stage it was. Dan Martin escaped with another rider on the fifth of five Pyrenean climbs. Then for 35 kilometres he held off a baying pack before beating his co-escapee in the sprint and capturing a glorious win. Well, the last Irishman to win a stage of the Tour in 1992 was Dan’s Uncle Stephen and he joined Pat this morning.
