Sean was joined by the Irish Times correspondent in the United States, Simon Carswell who had a shocking story in his Saturday column about how lack of tried and tested drugs being used in executions in American states has raised fears of unnecessary pain at death. Sean also asked him about President Obama's State of the Union address.http://www.rte.ie/radio1/today-with-sean-o-rourke/programmes/2014/0129/500864-today-with-sean-o-rourke-wednesday-29-january-2014/?clipid=1405160
Tomorrow night President Barack Obama will stand in front of Congress and give his State of the Union address. As candidates for his successor are already being bandied about, this one will probably not have the power or promise or hope of his first speech in 2008, but no doubt it’ll have much to keep people interested. Sean was joined by Graham Finlay of the School of Politics and International Relations in UCD.http://www.rte.ie/radio1/today-with-sean-o-rourke/programmes/2014/0127/500379-today-with-sean-o-rourke-monday-27-january-2014/?clipid=1403367
The crisis in Syria appears to be moving back from the brink after US President Barrack Obama welcomed a Russian proposal for Syria to place its chemical weapons under international control. Opinion polls suggest Americans remain wary of a strike against Syria, though Mr Obama said he would continue to press the US Congress to back a resolution authorising him to take military action against Syria. The BBC’s World Affairs Editor John Simpson is a veteran of Middle East politics and he came into studio to talk to Sean.http://www.rte.ie/radio1/today-with-sean-o-rourke/programmes/2013/0910/473318-today-with-sean-o-rourke-tuesday-10-september-2013/?clipid=1307313
President Barack Obama’s efforts to assemble a diplomatic and political coalition to support a US attack on Syria has failed to gain momentum at the G20 summit of world leaders in St.Petersburg. The Russian President Vladamir Putin has made no secret of his opposition to US military intervention in the aftermath a chemical gas attack, blamed on the Syrian Government by Britain and America . US Ambassador to the UN Samantha Power said the Security Council was no longer a "viable path" for holding Syria accountable for war crimes. Joining Sean from Moscow was Seamus Martin, who is attending the ...http://www.rte.ie/radio1/today-with-sean-o-rourke/programmes/2013/0906/472601-today-with-sean-o-rourke-friday-6-september-2013/?clipid=1304378
Speaking at a news conference ahead of the G20 Meeting in St Petersburg, President Barack Obama said the following about the “Red Line” that had been passed by the Syrian Regime in the use of chemical weapons against the rebels and civilians. Sean was joined on the line by Luke Harding, the Guardian’s foreign correspondent and author of Mafia State and Julian Assange War on Secrecy.http://www.rte.ie/radio1/today-with-sean-o-rourke/programmes/2013/0905/472396-today-with-sean-o-rourke-thursday-5-september-2013/?clipid=1303689
