Reputations
Reputations will deal with six controversial Irish historical figures. The idea is an extension of the ground-breaking lecture course, 'Contesting History', conducted by the Trinity College History Department in the 2004-05 academic year. Each week two historians will discuss the merits/demerits of Patrick Pearse, Charles Stewart Parnell, Daniel O'Connell, Wolfe Tone, Hugh O'Neill and Diarmuid MacMurrough. They will act rather like a prosecution and a defence barrister in a legal case and present arguments for and against the historical reputations of the six chosen figures. Myles Dungan will present the series and the series consultant is Prof. Thomas Bartlett of UCD.
