RTÉ Radio took home a total of 11 Gold Awards at the 2009 PPI Awards, held in Kilkenny. RTÉ stations dominated in the News and Current Affairs categories, with Sean O'Rourke and the News at One picking up two separate awards for Best News Programme and News Broadcaster of the Year.

Meanwhile, RTÉ Radio 1 swept the News Reporter of the Year category with a Bronze Award for Gavin Jennings, Silver for Caitriona Perry and Gold for Cian McCormack.

In another first, RTÉ Choice, one of RTÉ Radio's seven digital stations, took home the award for Best Documentary Feature.

Ryan Tubridy took the Speech Broadcaster of the Year Award, while Joe Duffy and the Liveline team accepted the Gold Award for Best Community/Social Action programme. Pat Kenny's Today programme took Gold in the Best Current Affairs Programme category.

The Outstanding Achievement Award went to Gay Byrne. The award was accepted on Mr Byrne's behalf by Aodán O Dubhghaill, Head of RTÉ lyric fm.

RTÉ Radio 1 was the PPI Station of the Year 2008. This year RTÉ Radio's Miriam O'Callaghan presented the Silver Award to RTÉ Radio 1 in the same category. RTÉ 2fm, RTÉ lyric fm and RTÉ Radio 1 also picked up a range of other Bronze and Silver Awards on the night, with nods for Mary Wilson, Colm and Jim Jim and The Business, among others.
