About Theo Dorgan

Theo Dorgan who presents The Poetry Programme is himself a poet, prose writer, editor, scriptwriter, translator and sailor. His books include the long poem Sappho's Daughter. His prose account of a transatlantic voyage under sail, Sailing for Home, was praised by Doris Lessing as "a book for everyone" and in 2007 he compiled and edited A Book of Uncommon Prayer. He is the editor of Irish Poetry Since Kavanagh and co-editor of Leabhar Mor na hEireann/The Great Book of Ireland. Among his other acclaimed works are an anthology Watching the River Flow and a collection of historical essays Revising the Rising.He has translated poetry from the Slovenian, the Irish and the French. His own work has been translated into Italian and Spanish. Theo Dorgan is a member of Aosdana.
