Radio 1 88-90fm
Pillars of Society
A series which explores how traditional roles have been redefined in a changing society. Each week the series will focus on a person who works in a job which has traditionally been regarded as a corner-stone of the community. Over the course of the six weeks, the series will focus on a Garda, school-teacher, priest, solicitor, shop-keeper and doctor.
According to the producer, Fiona Kelly, "The idea for the series came about recently when I was travelling around the country recording a series on young Irish entrepreneurs. It struck me that although society has changed so much over the last couple of decades, every community still has a number of people who are central figures in their community - and who people like to look up to and, to some extent, rely on. Through the series, I will also be exploring notions of status and respect and what place they have in our society today."
