Hornøya's Seabird Colony

From June 10th to July 12th, you can follow a live show from a bird cliff on an island called Hornøya, in the distant north-east of Norway.  About 100,000 sea birds are nesting in the steep mountainside at Hornøya, near Vardø in Finnmark.

As Tripadvisor expands its base in Ireland, Derek finds out how the clout of the customer review is making it the go-to place for finding travel destinations. Katriona McFadden will be in Dublin Airport as Paul Simon unveils a tribute to Seamus Heaney. And gardener Dermot O’Neill will be in studio to answer your questions - and he'll be talking tulips!

Gardening Tips, with Dermot O'Neill

Dermot O'Neill's gardening magazine Garden Heaven is in the shops now. In the current edition, Eanna ni Lamhna writes about bumblebees, there are lots of beautiful pictures, including those of wild flowers shot by Zoe Devlin. There are some interesting rhubarb recipes - and Dermot himself is writing about tulips, a subject close to his heart.

Last week, Dermot went to Powerscourt Gardens last week to find out more about the Annual Tulip Festival, where he spoke to Michael Byrne, the Head Gardener.

More information: Festivals at Powerscourt Gardens

There are gardens, and there is Powerscourt! Discover Powerscourt in spring, when the estate is ablaze with colour. Watch over 10,000 tulips gently dancing in the breeze at.  Displays of tulips are located throughout the gardens, from the Italian Gardens to the Herbaceous Border. Head Gardener Michael Byrne will give a guided walk of the festival on the April 16th at 11am and introduce visitors to the many unusual blooms in the gardens.

Don’t miss the Japanese Garden which comes to life in spring. Inhale the fragrances from sweet magnolia flowers, perfumed azaleas and cherry and apple blossom trees, bearing cascades of pink and white flowers. The Camellias in the Memorial Garden are a welcome surprise for visitors while thousands of daffodils add some spring cheer after the long winter months. Afterwards, unwind in the Avoca Terrace Café with tea and a cake or two! See www.powerscourt.com for more information

The Annual Tulip Festival takes place from April 10th to 24th. For more information visit www.powerscourt.com/events.

Mooney Tunes 10

Can you believe it? It's Mooney Tunes time again, and astonishingly, we are approaching our tenth concert!

It all started in September 2009, at the National Concert Hall. The very first Mooney Tunes featured music such as Send In The ClownsThe Anvil Chorus and even the theme from Hawaii Five-O.

Over the last nine concerts, there hasn't been any genre of music we haven't covered. We've done a lot of classical favourites, we've had arias and choruses from some of the greatest operas ever written.

In the last concert, Mooney Tunes 9 in December last year, we did some incredible jazz, like Jack L singing My Way, and the big band orchestra performing Sing Sing Sing by Benny Goodman.

We've had pop, traditional Irish, even country music - Daniel O'Donnell went down a treat at Mooney Tunes 7!

All in all, over the nine concerts so far, we have brought you a total of 152 pieces of music. They were performed by some of the cream of Irish and international talent, accompanied by the RTÉ Concert Orchestra.

Everybody from sopranos Cara O'Sullivan and Claudia Boyle, tenor Paul Potts, baritone John Molloy have performed.  We've had Brian Kennedy, Jerry Fish, Chloe Agnew, John Sheehan from the Dubliners.  We also did a special Eurovision tribute, with Niamh Kavanagh, Linda Martin, Paul Harrington and Charlie McGettigan.

Anyway, the good news is, we want to bring you another gem of a show. And, since it's our 10th concert, we've decided to a kind of "best of".

We would like you, our listeners, to tell us your favourite moments from the last nine shows. Now, you don't have to have been to the shows to nominate a favourite moment. All of the concerts have been broadcast on RTÉ Radio One shortly after the live performances.

And to help, here's a list of every single piece of music that we have featured!

TripAdvisor & Travel Reviews

TripAdvisor & Travel Reviews

Many of you are currently planning your summer holidays. Back in the day, most of us would pore over a variety of glossy holiday brochures then pop into our local travel agent who would advise us on options, availability and costs and then book the whole package for us there and then.

Today, of course, we go online and do it all ourselves. One of the most popular such holiday websites is TripAdvisor who set up offices here in Ireland last year and are now planning on expanding over the next few years.

On the line from the BBC in London to tell us more is TripAdvisor spokesperson, James Kay. We're also joined on the line by Ronan Ryan from the Pizza e Porchetta restaurant on Dublin's Grand Canal Dock. And we're also joined by Mooney Broadcast Co-Ordinator Sinéad Renshaw, with her experience of Tripadvisor and other travel comparison websites...

Dublin Airport's Tribute To Seamus Heaney

Do you have a flight booked in the next little while? Are you flying out of Dublin? Will you be using Terminal Two? Well be sure to look up when you reach the Departure Gates because a new piece of art has just been unveiled in the last hour!

It's a tapestry in honour of the late poet Seamus Heaney – it hangs from the ceiling at the Departure Gates – and it was launched by none other than musician Paul Simon.

Mooney reporter Katriona McFadden was at the unveiling and we go to her live this afternoon to find out more...
