On April 30th 1994, Dublin’s Point Theatre was the venue for the 39th Eurovision Song Contest. The hosts Cynthia Ní Mhurchu and Gerry Ryan introduced the third act: the song was written by Brendan Graham – and singing for Ireland, were Paul Harrington & Charlie McGettigan:
1994 was also the year Riverdance burst onto the stage as the interval act of the Eurovision.
So in a year that was great all round for Ireland, Paul & Charlie became the first group in Eurovision history to be awarded more than 200 points – with 226 points. They came in a whopping 66 points ahead of nearest rival Poland – and in doing so they managed to make it a hat trick for Ireland, the first country ever to get three wins in three consecutive years (following on the heels of Linda Martin in 1992, with Why Me, and Niamh Kavanagh with In Your Eyes in 1993).
Twenty years on, it’s only fitting that Paul Harrington and Charlie McGettigan are reuniting for a concert in Dublin's Sugar Club on April 7th to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of Rock'n'Roll Kids, and we're delighted to say they are in studio with us today!
We'd love to hear your memories of that night in 1994 when Paul & Joe won the Eurovision Song Contest for Ireland - text them now to 51551 or e-mail email@example.com.
Paul has just started a regular night in The Sandbank in Clontarf last Friday. It’s called the Paul Harrington Supper Club. For €25 you get candlelit dinner and music from Paul, and that will continue each Friday until the end of May.
Charlie has a show on Shannonside Saturdays 101-12 and an Arts Show on Wednesdays 8-9pm. He will also be playing a gig in Carlow on Thursday at The Seven Oaks, tickets are €15.

Student Teacher's First Day
Last week, one of the contestants on the Mooney’s Wednesday Quiz was Richie O'Farrell from Blackrock, in Dublin. He didn’t win the quiz, but he did tell us that he was training to be a secondary school teacher and he was going to be teaching his first ever class the following week.
Well, that was today, and to help (or hinder) him on his way, we sent our reporter Brenda Donohue out to accompany him!
