Ladies GAA Final
Juliet Murphy, Doireann O'Sullivan, and Anne-Marie Walsh are just as legendary in the field of women's Gaelic football as Martina Navratilova is in the tennis world.
Because these three women, three of the finest Rebelettes ever to play the game, yesterday secured Cork's EIGHTH all Ireland victory in nine years. What an achievement!
And yesterday, Derek and Brenda Donohue were privileged to witness that accomplishment firsthand, in one of the tightest and most nail-biting finishes in living memory.

National Bird Of Ireland?
Last week we got a ‘tweet’, quite ironically, asking does Ireland have a national bird? The tweet came from Mooney listener Jack Quinn.
Well, on Friday we invited Niall Hatch from BirdWatch Ireland onto the show and we talked about the issue.
We learned that it is more of an American phenomenon... very few European countries have a national bird although the Gallic Rooster is the national bird of France and features on the country’s international rugby jerseys.
Niall explained that it would take an Act of the Oireachtas to officially declare a National Bird and we thought, why don’t we make some preliminary moves to make that happen?!
But what should the National Bird of Ireland be? Mooney reporter Katriona McFadden brings us a selection of your selections so far! What bird would you choose to represent Ireland? Send your suggestions to email@example.com or tweet @MooneyShow!
RTÉ Big Music Week & Finbar Furey
Finbar Furey returned to prominence this summer when The Last Great Love Song was the hit from The Hit, and earned him a number one singles placing in the charts. And we're thrilled that Finbar joins us in studio today!
Finbar Furey is involved in RTÉ's Big Music Week this year - he will play in the All-Star Grand Finale Big Music Week Charity Gig in aid of Barnados at Vicar Street Saturday night, October 5th. Presented by Kathryn Thomas, the concert will feature collaborations and surprise guests, with all funds going to the charity.
And we have 20 pairs of tickets to give away for the concert, to the first 20 people who can finish this very famous Finbar Furey song title:
When You Were Sweet...
