Caring For Wild Animals

Please note that many species of mammals, birds, invertebrates etc... are protected under law and that, even with the best of intentions, only someone holding a relevant licence from the National Parks & Wildlife Service should attempt the care of these animals.  For full details, please click here to read the NPWS Checklist of protected & rare species in Ireland.  If you are concerned about a wild animal, please contact your local wildlife ranger - click here for details.

Tickets For Mooney Tunes 8 Go On Sale!

Tickets For Mooney Tunes 8 Go On Sale!

The eighth concert in our hugely successful series of concerts entitled MOONEY TUNES will take place at the Bord Gais Energy Theatre on the evening of Sunday, March 24th.

Tickets will go on sale TODAY, from 3pm. And they are priced very reasonably, as always, between €14.50 and €39.50. They will be on sale through Ticketmaster, and there will be a booking fee added on.

HOWEVER, if you DON'T want to pay a booking fee, you can go down to the box office at the Bord Gais Energy Theatre this afternoon, and buy your tickets directly from there. Our reporter Katriona McFadden will be at the theatre with non-other than Mooney Tunes and X Factor star Mary Byrne! Plus if you are at the theatre this afternoon [Monday, February 25th 2013] between 3 and 4.30, you could play Mooney's Monday Quiz with Katriona for your chance to win a pair of free tickets to the concert AND a two-night stay with dinner at the Maldron Hotel across the road!

ALSO, if you are going in a group of six or more, you can avoid a booking fee by ringing the group bookings line at the theatre. That number is 01 677-7999.

Alternatively, if you don't live in Dublin, if you can't get to the theatre, do get onto Ticketmaster as soon as possible after the tickets go on sale. The number to dial is 0818 719 377, or click here for more details.

We anticipate a huge demand for these tickets, so we'd advise getting your ticket sooner rather than later. Previous Mooney Tunes concerts have usually sold out within a couple of days. For more information, visit

Mary Byrne will be performing at Dublin's Olympia Theatre on Saturday, May 4th. Tickets start at €27.90, and you can find more information about her concert by visiting

Auction Of Tubridy The Calf

Auction Of Tubridy The Calf

If somebody told you they were going to name a calf after you, you might not be entirely flattered by it. But that is not the case for our RTÉ 2fm colleague Ryan Tubridy, who was delighted to learn that dairy farmers Nick and Elaine Flavin, from just outside Youghal in Co Cork, were planning to do just that.

Farmers in the East Cork/ West Waterford area were asked to donate a calf to the Youghal Cancer Support Centre, and today all the animals donated are being auctioned off as part of a charity mart to raise funds for the Centre.

The auction began at 10.30am this morning, so we asked Brenda to don her finest wellies and head on down to the Mart to find out how the bidding was going.  She also met up with one woman, Joan, who is recovering from cancer...
