    JFK HOMECOMING MEMORY PROJECT

    What is it?

The JFK Homecoming Memory project has been organised by the US Embassy and the National Library of Ireland. It encompasses the following:

    JFK WEBSITE

A special commemorative JFK site www.jfkhomecoming.com (live from May 29th). This website will contain:

Stills from the National LibraryAudio Visual from RTÉ’s Archives – extensive footage from the RTÉ JFK Archives ExhibitionCustomer Experience videos

The Website will be launched on the 29th May at the National Library by Minister Jimmy Deenihan TD at 1:00 pm.

    JFK EXHIBITION – NATIONAL LIBRARY

Keen to ensure we have maximum public access to the archives, we are working with The National Library, who are organising a physical installation of the JFK Exhibition. We are in discussions with them around a small area which will host a bespoke “locked down” RTÉ Archive’s JFK online exhibition currently being compiled and curated by the team. The physical manifestation will be under an area dedicated to broadcast.

This exhibition will be opened by Caroline Kennedy, on the 21st June.

JFK “TALKS” @ THE NATIONAL LIBRARY

We are also currently working with the National Library to secure an RTÉ talk about the “Broadcasting” piece of JFK’s visit. We are suggesting that this “talk” would include:

Broadcasters involved in the actual event at the timeA presentation around the RTÉ Archives JFK exhibition by Liam or Brid.

Full and final details of the talk are yet to be decided, timeframe is mid-July

MAJOR JFK RTÉ ARCHIVES ONLINE EXHBITION

A major RTÉ Archives exhibition, which will be hosted on the RTÉ site, is being compiled by the team. Comprising over 40 visual and audio clips with some documentation such as the RTÉ Guide.

The exhibition recounts RTÉ’s first major outside broadcast, which was covered internationally, from the pre-visit to the four days. Exhibited in chronological order, online audiences can view day by day coverage of an event which still has a huge emotional draw to the charismatic President John F. Kennedy. The online exhibition, which will launch in and around June 19th, will culminate in November with the assassination of JFK.

The website will launch on the 14th of June on www.rte.ie/archives.

Full media and social media plans are being drawn up around both the collaborative projects and our own Archives exhibition.
