Liveline

It has been an extaordinary week of mother and baby stories on Liveline.

We started today's programme with Eamon who had been a handyman doing occasional work at The Manor House  Mother and Baby home in Castlepollard. He described what he saw on his visits.

Barbara's mother spent 21 years in institutions including the Bethany Home. Barbara herself was put up for adoption. She didn't search for her birth mother until after her death.

Unlike many other callers, Mary does not want to know who her biological mother is. Born in a nursing home in Percy Place, she has always felt loved and only found out in her 20's that she was adopted.

Sinead told Joe about her quest to find her father, including a meeting in a pub with his wife. She spoke very movingly about adoptive children not having a sense of identity.

Lawyer Andrea Martin brought up an interesting legal point about assisting people to search for relatives.  Elizabeth, Joan and Mary shared their stories with us.
