Liveline Friday 6 June 2014
On today's Liveline, Veronica called about the child she was forced to give up when she was 17. She was told the child had been given to a family but she learned the child had, in fact, died. She spoke of a life-time of grief.
Aidan spoke of losing twins who were still-born and the struggle he had to bury them in the family plot. Even the stone-mason had to be persuaded to carve their names on the gravestone.
Mary spoke of her search for her aunt who, at the age of 17, gave birth in Castlepollard. The baby died at two weeks but the aunt was never allowed home. Mary has been searching for her aunt for 35 years - the last sighting was in the White Hart Pub in the Fulham area in the late 1960s.
Marion spoke of giving birth and a nun who she thought was going to help her took the baby away from her in an ambulance. She only saw her son again when she was sent a photograph when he turned 18.
