Discussion and debate with Joe Duffy

On today's programme, Brendan called about a new Discover Ireland advert which encourages people to 'touch a dolphin'. Brendan believes wild animals should be treated as such and not petted. Yvonne also spoke on the programme. Dusty, the Doolin dolphin, which features in the ad, flipped its tail at her while she was in the water, hurting her very badly.

We also spoke to Yvonne who has a seven year old son with special needs and self-harms by kicking and hitting himself. She told Joe about daily life with a lovable and polite little boy who is need of a lot of care.

Martin spoke about life with cancer and some of the new drugs that are yet to appear on the Irish market. Will these be available through Irish health insurers? he wondered.

Michelle and Sue ended the programme. Michelle has also been hurt by Dusty. She suffered a perforated intestine after being in the water. Sue had not swum with the animal but she had kayaked from Doolin to Inis Oirr. Dusty kept a careful watch over her all the way, guiding her gently on. Just don't swim with them, cautioned Sue.
