Journalist Brenda Power has been criticised by Pavee Point, the Council for Civil Liberties and the Equality Authority for her articles in the Daily Mail and the Sunday Times in relation to Traveller violence. She feels there is too much tolerance of feuding among travellers and feels she has been targeted for expressing these views. Martin Collins from Pavee Point is annoyed about the articles, according to him this is stereotyping of travellers. He went on to say travellers do not have a monopoly on criminal activity and violence. In a statement from the Irish Daily Mail they say they believe in free speech. They went on to say they will continue to fight – alone if they have to – for the right of citizens to debate all matters of public policy without state censorship.
