Today on Liveline, we went back again to the problems regarding the CRC – and the monies given to former-chief Paul Kiely. We spoke to Arthur who works at the centre who said that the staff are devastated as the scandal. He said that people there is a feeling of shame about what has happened. It’s a vocation for him and his colleagues. We also spoke to Rory Naylor and Kevin Rogers – both have been service users at the centre. Rory is only 17 and still receives treatment there.

Eoin Hahessy rang us from Melbourne – which is experiencing a heatwave at the moment – to tell us about a phenomenon called King Hits. He wants to warn Irish people coming over that the drinking culture in Australia is very different and is far more aggressive. King Hits is where you get one punch to the back of the head which can prove fatal.

Carmel told us about last Wednesday when she left her handbag on a bus. She had no money, no phone and without the help from Dublin Bus and Bus Eireann, she wouldn’t have got home to Wexford. The staff of both companies couldn’t have been more helpful. One lent her €20, another drove her to Clontarf Bus Depot and back again to retrieve her handbag and Bus Eireann made sure she had a free ticket all the way to Wexford.
