Carol has a scam alert for Lifeline Listeners. Her mother was approached by a ‘long lost friend’ who she couldn’t remember looking for a cash contribution as they had been clamped.

Richard has an idea to solve the problem of the black economy.

Patricia is a carer on and off for the last 10 years. She is not entitled to any sick pay. She has to go and sign on.

Mary has just returned to Athlone Inst Technology to study nursing, because they worked right up to the date they started they are entitled to no financial support. If they had given up work 18 months ago they would have been.

Declan – is a supporter of Arthur’s Day. He says Guinness has done an awful lot for this country.  Guinness is not a brand associated with binge drinking.

A Liveline 10 minute poll “Are you in favour of Arthur’s day” – 74% said no 26% said yes.

Catherine told us how Al-Anon had helped him. Her husband was an alcoholic who died earlier this year.

Black Market Economy

Richard has an idea to stop the black economy in the building trade. Sean says how difficult it is to sign off the dole for a few weeks to do a job and then sign on again and Robert takes cash jobs because he can't keep up with the paperwork. Mary has great difficulty employing a legitimate childminder

Carers

Patricia tells how she cannot get sick pay even though she fell and broke her wrist on her way to work. Jenny says it costs her friend more to work than she earns as a carer.

Clamping Scams

Scammers are befriending you on the street and asking for a top up to enable them to get the clamp off their cars.
