A call from David Dolan who employs 15 people providing external insulation to houses is going to have to let people go as grants to provide this insulation are being cut back. A number of other employers who provide similar services also feel they are going to let people go. Caroline, aged 25, from Tipperary runs another external insulation company and will also be letting people go.
Cutbacks in CE schemes affecting employers also featured. Mary Maher from the Dublin Adult Literacy Centre explained how the cuts will effectively end CE schemes. Other callers from various country wide CE schemes called to talk about the cuts effecting them, including Richie Byrne from Access Music project in Galway and Joan Byrne of Dublin’s Citywide Drugs Crisis Campaign.
Joe then spoke to Con Kennedy, a graphic designer who upon hearing rumours of the punt being printed has designed a new currency for Ireland – the ‘punt nua’ which features the people he thinks should be on the new currency.
