The Dublin Diocesan Report: Counselling Options
Options available for people seeking counselling and psychotherapy services as a result of the publication of the Dublin Diocesan Report:
· The HSE National Counselling Service (NCS) is available to adults who experienced abuse as a child. Counselling is available at 60 locations throughout Ireland and can be accessed by calling freephone 1800 670 700 for an appointment at a location of your choice. The freephone number will be answered by qualified counsellors from 8am to 2am daily for a period of up to two weeks following publication of the Murphy Report in anticipation of the need.
· Faoiseamh is an organisation which provides telephone counselling and a counselling and psychotherapy referral service for people who have been sexually, physically, or emotionally abused by priests or religious. This helpline staffed by experienced telephone counsellors, operating on seven days a week from 8am to 2am at freephone 1800 331 234 (until 6th of December, and will revert to regular operating times thereafter. See www.faoiseamh.com for updates). Counselling can be arranged within a two week period and will be funded by the Archdiocese of Dublin.
· Connect provides out of hours (evening and weekends) telephone counselling and internet counselling for adults who have experienced child abuse. It is open from 6-10pm Wednesday to Sunday, is staffed by qualified and accredited staff and is available on freephone 1800 477 477.
· Dublin Rape Crisis (DRCC) helpline is available 24 hours a day on freephone 1800 778 888. Telephone and face to face counselling services are available.
· One in Four provides support and resources for women and men who have experienced sexual abuse. Contact number is: 01 6624 070.
· The Samaritans helpline is available 24 hours a day on 1850 609 090.
· Anyone who wants to report abuse can do so by contacting the Gardai or their local HSE Social Services/Work office. The Dublin Diocesan Child Protection Service can also be contacted on 01 836 0314.
