On 12 December, the Michael Littleton Memorial Lecture 2006 was delivered by Professor Brendan Drumm at 7pm in Studio 1, RTÉ Radio Centre, Donnybrook, Dublin

The lecture, entitled "Access, Confidence and Pride - The key foundations for a World Class Health Service", is open to the public and will be recorded for broadcast on RTÉ Radio 1.

RTÉ Radio 1 announced today (27 November 2006) that Professsor Brendan Drumm, Chief Executive Officer of the Health Service Executive, will deliver the 2006 RTÉ Radio 1 Michael Littleton Memorial Lecture on Tuesday, 12 December in the RTÉ Radio Centre in Donnybrook.

The lecture, entitled "Access, Confidence and Pride - The key foundations for a World Class Health Service", will be open to the public and will be recorded for broadcast on RTÉ Radio 1.

Brendan Drumm was born in Manorhamilton, Co Leitrim, attended Summerhill College, Sligo and University College Galway where he was conferred with an MB, BCh, BAO in 1979.
 
In 1981 he started his postgraduate clinical training at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto where he was later appointed Consultant Paediatric Gastroenterologist and Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto.
 
He returned to Ireland in 1989 following his appointment as Consultant Paediatrician at the Regional Hospital, Limerick.
 
In 1991 he was appointed Professor and Head of the Department of Paediatrics at University College Dublin and Consultant Paediatric Gastroenterologist at Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children in Crumlin.
 
Professor Drumm is a reviewer of 20 publications, a member of the editorial board of three publications and has had almost 100 manuscripts, book chapters and reviews published.

Professor Drumm was appointed to the position of Chief Executive Officer of the Health Service Executive in August 2005.

The Michael Littleton Memorial Lecture is an annual public lecture for radio on topics of wide-ranging interest and concern recorded in front of a live, interactive audience for broadcast on RTÉ Radio 1.  This year's lecture will be chaired by RTÉ News' health correspondent Fergal Bowers.
