About John Creedon
John Creedon can truly say that he has 'Rocked around the clock' for RTE Radio 1. He began his career with the national broadcaster in 1987 presenting the drivetime show, Music on the Move. That was followed by eleven years anchoring the early morning Risin' Time. The success of Risin' Time led to the Corkman getting his own lunchtime slot, The John Creedon Show in 2000. Six years later he was on the road again to afternoons, then three years at the helm of Late Date.
The winner of the reality tv hit, 'Failté Towers', John is no overnight success! He has already established a successful dual career in both television and radio. One of twelve children, he is a native of Cork city and joined RTE Radio 1 in 1987 following a nationwide talent search. Within two years John had been presented with a prestigious Jacobs Award for Risin' Time, Radio 1's Breakfast Show. He has since won awards for his comedy writing and has had two hit records with his comic character "Terence".hairdresser to the stars. These days he produces and presents 'The John Creedon Show, weekdays on RTÉ Radio 1 and is a Star judge on the ratings topping 'All-Ireland Talent Show'
The popular Corkman has been an adjudicator at The Hot Press Rock Awards, The Dublin Theatre Festival, The National Final of John Player Tops and last year picked up a Fairplay for Airplay Award for his support of the Irish Music Industry.
John has also presented numerous live radio and TV simulcasts including "The Dublin International Piano Competition " and "Musician of the Future" from the National Concert Hall Dublin and "Messiah" with the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields for Channel Four.
Creedon wrote and presented the TV documentaries "City Life", "The Seven Wonders of Cork" and the music series "Jazz" which ran for four seasons on RTE 1. He also presented "Winning Streak", "Family Matters", "Live @ 3",
"Review of the Week", "The Health Show" and has also appeared on "Kenny Live", "The Late Late Show", 'Tubridy Tonight', "Nationwide" , 'Podge & Rodge , and travel show 'No Frontiers'. In 2005 John anchored "The Capital of Culture Opening Ceremony" in front of 100,000 people on the streets of Cork and live on Television.
John has been a columnist with The Irish Examiner and has also written articles, features and comedy for The Sunday Independent, The Irish Times, The Star and other publications.
Having been bitten by the acting bug when he landed a walk-on part in 'The Last Great Train Robbery' with Sean Connery, and Donald Sutherland , he studied at the Gaiety School of Acting in Dublin before touring Ireland's stand-up comedy circuit and starring in the TV comedy 'Killnaskully' as well as several short films and pantomime at Cork Opera House. In 2005 he hosted a week of 'An Evening with Danny La Rue' at the Everyman Palace Theatre. John regularly hosts national award ceremonies and concerts. These days John is in demand as an MC and after dinner speaker and recently addressed the Trinity College Dublin Philosophy Society and has been honoured by the Cork Person of the Year Committee. John's work has brought him to the Middle East, Africa, China, India The Arctic Circle and all over Europe and North America. His great passions include theatre, live music, travel, gardening, angling, natural history and following his beloved Cork City FC in the National League. In fact the Football Association of Ireland presented John with a special award for his contribution to Irish football.
Recently John received a Diploma in Regional Studies and Folklore at University College Cork and he is currently back at UCC studying Gaeilge Labhartha (Spoken Irish) and traditional flute at Cork School of Music.
