The largest onshore oilfield in sub-Saharan Africa has been discovered in Uganda with the involvement of Irish-founded company, Tullow Oil.
Part of the find is located beneath a game reserve and is in a poorly-developed part of the east African Rift Valley.
It will generate total revenue of at least $50 billion dollars over the next 10 to 15 years and move Uganda from a consumer of oil to a significant producer.
As Tullow Oil and its partners prepare to put this huge discovery into production, Tim Desmond looks at the potential effects of oil on Uganda; it's economy and society.
He asks who will benefit from the discovery and how will it change the lives of ordinary Ugandans?
Producer, Tim Desmond
