On 12th June 2001 Sinead McDaid was tragically killed in a car accident in Co. Donegal. Her parents Sean and Magdalene Farren are still looking for answers to her death. Eight and a half years later, with all avenues in Ireland exhausted, Mr Farren Goes to Brussels.

Tina Leonard follows the Farrens on that journey that will bring Europe to the heart of the matter for this family from Donegal. They eventually submit and present a petition to the European Parliament petitions committee.

This documentary was made with the assistance of the Communicating Europe Initiative of the Department of Foreign Affairs

Compiled and narrated by Tina Leonard.

Additional material:

In November Tina Leonard met with Margot Wallstr÷m in her office in the European Commission headquarters in Brussels.

Margot was Vice-President of the European Commission in charge of Institutional Relations and Communications from 2004 until the end of 2009.

She was charged with the task of communicating Europe to its 500 million citizens, so Tina asked her what Europe actually does for its citizens; how much we really know about it and how open and transparent the European government and its Commission should be.
