Jiri Slavicinsky was born in Rymarov, Czech Republic. He studied sociology and musicology at Masaryk University in Brno and at the University of Helsinki, Finland.
Following the completion of his university programs in 2006, he was employed in the cultural section of Czech Radio in Ostrava as a reporter. At the 2008 - 2009 EBU Master School on Radio Features, he fell in love with the radio documentary genre.
To further develop his documentary making skills, Jiri went to Canada in 2010 to work as an intern in the independent Battery Radio in St. John's. He has also been contributing to CBC and Czech Radio as a freelance journalist.
In 2011 Jiri's feature 'Last Summer in Grand Bruit' won the international Ake Blomstrom Award.
