Documentary maker: Pat O'Mahony

Having spent 11 years as a freelance TV and radio producer/director/presenter in London, Pat came home last summer to produce Ireland's Biggest 'Hits' 2009, a television programme on our internet news search habits with Coco TV for RTE 1, which was shown on New Year's Day.

Last year he also made Pat's University Challenge for Radio 1, in which he spent a week in DCU while it was celebrating its 20th year as a fully fledged university - and where he himself studied for his Communications degree from 1983-'86.

During Pat's UK stint he presented an Irish-themed radio show on GLR (now BBC London); he was a reporter on the BBC's prestigious weekly Watchdog consumer TV programme; he produced Reporters At War, an Emmy-winning TV series for Discovery on the history of war journalism; he produced and directed films for Channel 4 and Five; and he briefly popped over to Dublin to present Witnness TV, 8 hours of live music from the two-day precursor to Oxegen, for TV3; to produce the pilot edition of RTE television's The Panel; and to produce and present Second Generation, a series on six well-known second generation Irish in the UK, for RTE Radio 1.

Before departing these shores Pat was the producer/presenter of Access All Areas, a long-running series on the Irish music industry on RTE Radio 1, as well as a presenter/reporter on a variety of music (Feile TV, Dave Fanning Show, The Garden's Voice), current affairs (The Sunday Show, 5-7 Live, The Live Register) and general features (Head 2 Toe, Off Your Trolley, Gortnaclune '94, Options, Summer Express) radio and TV programmes for RTE. He also was a presenter on a UTV environmental series, Green Pages.

In his pre-broadcasting career, Pat wrote for the likes of Hotpress, In Dublin and The Dublin Event Guide and was the first full-time Entertainments and Publications Manager at NIHE, Dublin - now DCU - Student Union.

He graduated from NIHE, Dublin in 1986 with an honours degree in Communications Studies.

RTE TV have recently commissioned Pat and Coco to make a 2010 version of their end-of-year news internet search programme.
