Donegal woman Mary Owens makes independent radio features and documentaries for national, local and community radio stations from her base in Conamara, Co. Galway. She's won a couple of international radio awards.
'The Sea in Song,' a three part music documentary series on Ireland's remarkable maritime song tradition in both the English and Irish languages, won silver in the 2011 New York Festival Radio Awards. The series was broadcast on RTÉ Lyric FM. Her documentary 'Remembering Hanna Greally' won best radio documentary in the Celtic Media Festival awards in 2008. It was broadcast on RTE Radio One and on Ros FM.
She works as a consultant trainer/executive producer in radio documentary making for radio stations around the country.
Mary also produces creative audio features and mixed media storyboards, in English and in Irish, for oral history on-line sites and local heritage exhibitions.
She is a founder member and a former chairperson of the Association of Independent Radio Producers of Ireland (AIRPI).
