Born in Cork City, Tim Desmond became a teenager just as Punk exploded onto the music scene and not too long before the pope came to Ireland.
After an initial involvement in 'pirate' radio in the early 1980's (as a newsreader on the successful Munster station ERI), Tim joined the great exodus out of Ireland, moving to the UK in 1985.
He found work in the building trade in London and on returning to Cork in the early 90's Tim set up his own construction business. He caught the first wave of the construction boom and was in business for over a decade before deciding at the age of 38 to return to education and re-enter the media.
Tim studied Social Science and journalism as a mature student in UCC and was taken on full time by RTÉ Radio after graduating from college. He is currently a producer with RTÉ Radio 1.
Tim lives in Turner's Cross with his wife Tanya and two daughters.
